Philanthropic foundation donates to support Tucson Police Officers Association

TUCSON, AZ (December 11, 2017) – The H.S. Lopez Family Foundation recently became a partner of the Tucson Police Officers Association (TPOA) Charitable Foundation, with its donation to the organization for its Kids and Cops Christmas event. Each year, TPOA takes as many as 300 kids, including those they meet in the field, from Head Start, and the Urban League, to shop for toys and clothing they want and need. The Kids and Cops Christmas event will take place at Target, 4040 N. Oracle Rd., on Saturday, December 16 at 8 a.m.

Upon arriving at Target, each family is provided with a $100 gift card. Membership dues from TPOA help to cover most of the funding. The donation made by The H.S. Lopez Family Foundation will now help provide more children with gift cards.

“This is the first year we’re partnering with the TPOA, and we are very happy to be helping them,” said Humberto Lopez, founder of The H.S. Lopez Family Foundation. “It is a blessing to be able to bring the joy of the holidays to more children in Tucson and we hope other community partners will join us in supporting this worthy cause.”

For 15 years, the Kids and Cops Christmas event has provided positive and personal interaction between children and local police. Uniformed officers are paired with kids, helping them shop for much needed winter clothing and holiday items. Afterward, each child gets their picture taken with the officer who assisted them and they’re given the photo as a keepsake. Kids also get to meet Santa and are treated to snacks, free gifts, and a raffle, all provided by Target.

The H.S. Lopez Family Foundation has a long history of funding community projects and making charitable donations. In 2016, the Foundation donated over $700,000 to local non-profit organizations.

Today, Monday, December 11, a press conference with members of the TPOA and The H.S. Lopez Family Foundation will be held at 2:30 p.m.
