On June 7, the H.S. Lopez Family Foundation Center of Opportunity celebrated its fifth anniversary, marking a significant milestone in its mission to support individuals experiencing homelessness in Tucson. In partnership with the Gospel Rescue Mission, the center has achieved notable success, including serving over 700,000 meals, helping nearly 2,000 people secure permanent housing, and guiding almost 500 individuals through a year-long recovery program. The center’s holistic approach, supported by over 60 partner organizations, has made a substantial impact, transforming lives through comprehensive care that extends beyond immediate needs.
The center’s success is deeply personal for founder Humberto Lopez and his family, particularly his daughter Illiana, a program graduate now contributing to its mission. Lopez envisions the center as a national model for homelessness services, with plans to share its practices and replicate its success in other communities.

Lopez Family Foundation recently became a partner of the Tucson Police Officers Association (TPOA) Charitable Foundation, with a donation to the organization for its Kids and Cops Christmas event. Each year, TPOA takes as many as 300 kids to shop for toys and clothing they want and need. This year, the Kids and Cops Christmas event will take place at Super Target, 4040 N. Oracle Rd., on Saturday, December 16.
The Tucson Police Officers Association’s (TPOA) annual Kids and Cops Christmas received support this year from The H.S. Lopez Family Foundation. The event pairs uniformed police with underserved children, helping them shop for winter clothing and holiday items. In partnering with The H.S. Lopez Family Foundation, the TPOA will be able to provide many more children with holiday cheer.

The H.S. Lopez Family Foundation’s recent purchase of a vacant Holiday Inn, and plans of converting it into the Center of Opportunity, is reported on by KGUN9. The center will provide education, health, and welfare resources to the public.

The H.S. Lopez Family Foundation is transforming an empty Holiday Inn into the Center of Opportunity, reports KVOA. According to the Foundation’s founder, Humberto Lopez, the building’s 300 rooms and 30,000 square feet of public space “will provide a new beginning to individuals and families.”
